Maarten Rots
CURATOR'S NOTE
Maarten Rots’ love for graphical shapes is clearly very visible in his compositions – lines and shapes found in architecture take on an important role in his photographs. Rots carefully constructs the compositions in each photo by taking different positions and distances from whatever he wants to capture. Everything is already there when he takes a shot; what he sees is what we get. His final images almost play tricks on the eye and can look like graphic abstract paintings instead of photography. Rots' photographs are fun in both composition and color palette – they can work in any type of style.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Maarten Rots (b.1982, Aalten, NL) is a visual artist from the Netherlands, working with photography. Through photography, he literally and figuratively sees the world through another lens. The camera gives him the opportunity to isolate reality, to frame it and to give it a new content. Rots finds it incredibly fascinating to discover and capture the abstract qualities that can be found in everyday life. The search for such a situation is as important to him as the resulting photograph. To create new work, Rots lives and works travelling through Europe in camper van. His work is held in both private and public collections in Europe.
