Final archival pigment print, printed on uncoated cotton rag paper
This series of work engages viewers to wonder – is this a drawing or a photograph? Oversized complex and immersive scenes create a seductive attitude when discussing and thinking about environmental issues. ‘Uproot’ depicts a scene of a sparse bouquet of flowers in a single vase sitting on a wood dresser. All insects used have been harvested on sustainable insect farms.
A large format 8×10 view camera and hand coats the 8×10 inch negatives on panes of glass. The plates are then coated over a period of three days. Once prepared, the negatives are carefully loaded into a holder and exposed one at a time. An onsite dark room is used to develop each shot immediately after its taken. High resolution reflective scans are produced of the prints and the photographs are then lightly edited and printed on archival uncoated cotton rag paper with pigment inks.
